Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi Box Office and in comparison to The Force Awakens and Rogue One

The Last Jedi is soaring its way up in the box office and in probably no time at all in will reach the $1 billion mark very soon but then why are some film box office buffs claiming that the Last Jedi is failing. Of course looking at the word failing and you only have to look at it from the perspective of Star Wars because of course The Last Jedi has already made it into the top 50 highest grossing films of all time and is already the 4th of 10 highest grossing Star Wars film in just under three weeks.

But let's compare the three films that have been released under Disney

As the Last Jedi hasn't finished yet only the categories that can be compared will be

Opening Weekend (USA + Canada)
1. The Force Awakens - $247,966,675
2. The Last Jedi - $200,009,584
3. Rogue One - $155,081,681

Looking at the raw numbers here it can be easily deduced that the Last Jedi is more in line, just of course, with the Force Awakens for the opening weekend. Amazing what Luke and Leia can do to it all isn't it.

Positions on the Worldwide Chart for Opening weekend

1. The Force Awakens = #2
2. The Last Jedi = #5
3. Rogue One = #24

So again the Last Jedi does well and does not need to be shunned the way it is

Positions for Opening Gross

1. The Force Awakens = #1
2. The Last Jedi = #2
3. Rogue One = #13

Second Weekend Positions

1. The Force Awakens = #1
2. The Last Jedi = #13
3. Rogue One = #17

Fastest to $100 million

1. The Force Awakens = #1
2. The Last Jedi = #2
3. Rogue One = #14

Fastest to $200 million

1. The Force Awakens = #1
2. The Last Jedi = #2
3. Rogue One = #13

Fastest to $300 million

1. The Force Awakens = #1
2. The Last Jedi = #2
3. Rogue One = #8

Fastest to $400 million

1. The Force Awakens = #1
2. The Last Jedi = #3
3. Rogue One = #5

In terms of the money making procedure it looks like the Last Jedi is tallying of slightly.Looking at the number of days that it has been in cinemas and were it goes  it is 4th behind The Force Awakens, Jurassic World and Avengers Assemble. This is interesting as it was 2nd for a long while. Interestingly the two highest grossing films, Avatar and Titanic are not in the top positions at this stage meaning that they gradually rose to the positions of first and second and did not rise as quickly as The Last Jedi. This would suggest that Episode VIII will finish in 6th of the highest grossing films of all time which of course is incredibly good.
