2017 - What have are Doctor Who Doctors been up to?

2017 has been a busy year for a lot of people but what have the actors who have played the Doctor been acting in over this past year

First things first of course the wonderful actors William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee are sadly passed away so did not star in anything this year

Tom Baker

Tom Baker has returned to the realm of Doctor Who this year, completing Shada that was of course abandoned in 1979. Tom Baker is the second Doctor actor to be the Star Wars galaxy and this year Baker continued voicing the Bendu for a further 2 episodes of Star Wars Rebels.

Peter Davison

In 2016 Peter Davison did not appear in either film or TV but this year he has been busy. He was in the tv film, Brian Pern: A Tribute as well as appearing in the theatrical film, You, Me and Him (which of course also starred the wonderful David Tennant). Peter also guest starred in an episode of Granchester and appeared in two episodes of Liar.

Colin Baker

Unfortunately Colin wasn't on the big screen or small screen in 2017 but we do hope to see him in 2018!

Sylvester McCoy

Sylvester has appeared in the American horror film Slumber and the Science Fiction film the Circuit. Sylvester made two appearances in the TV Series Zapped and his voice guest starred in Sarah and Duck. He also made three appearances in Sense8

Paul McGann

McGann has appeared in two films this year. One is B&B the other is Perplexed Music which was written and directed by his brother Mark and his son Sonny. McGann also joined the regular cast of Holby City, a series he will be continuing to appear into this year

Christopher Eccleston

The first of our modern Doctor actors has been very busy this year. Like Peter Davison and companion actor Matt Lucas, Chrstopher has also been in Brian Pern: A Tribute.  Eccleston has also appeared in a further 8 episodes of the Leftovers, a series he has been in since 2014 and also has appeared in 6 new episodes of the A Word, a series he has been in since 2015. The Leftovers has come to an end this year

David Tennant

David Tennant has appeared in 2 films this year being Mad to be Normal and the animated Ferdinand. David has also continued to appear in numerous television programmes. He has been in 8 more episodes of Broadchurch and 6 for W1A, both shows of which are ending this year. David voiced his character Spitlout for a further 4 episodes of Dragons: Riders of Berk. David voiced Scrooge McDuck in Ducktales for 9 episodes as well as appear in one episode of Space Commander and voice a character in Thunderbirds Are Go! and just to wrap it up he had the lead in the TV film: The Highway Rat

Matt Smith

Matt has appeared in one film this year of which he was the lead; Patient Zero. Matt also returned for 10 episodes of the Crown of which he leaves at the end of the series

Peter Capaldi

The most recent predecessor who has played the Doctor for all but one scene this year has not done much other than Doctor Who as that takes up a lot of his time. He has appeared for 13 episodes of said show, of which he leaves this year, and appears in Paddington 2, his first sequel

Jodie Whitakker
