Finales and my scores

When I first watched the Doctor Falls I was disappointed by it. I originally wasn't going to give the finale a 9 until I remembered other finales and what I have them. It is important to remember that I would have done the finale of Series 10 and 9 differently and more like what the marketing suggested the episode would be. The finale of series 10 was exceptional for Moffat, who has achieved a finale that I rank higher than the one of Russel's finales (series 1). So well done there Mr Moffat!
Let's take a look at the past finales and what I have given them out of 10 to see what effects my scores. The overall score is then given in bold.

1. Bad Wolf = 8/Parting of the Ways = 8 8
2. Army of Ghosts = 7/Doomsday = 9 9
3. Utopia = 8/Sound of Drums = 9/Last of the Time Lords = 8 = 9
4. Stolen Earth = 10/Journey's End = 8 9
5. Pandorica Opens = 8/The Big Bang = 8 8
6. Single parter so not part of this article but I would give it a 6
7. Single parter so not part of this article but I would give it a 7
8. Dark Water = 8/Death in Heaven = 8 8
9. Heaven Sent = 8/Hell Bent = 8 8
10. World Enough and Time = 9/The Doctor Falls = 8 9

Series 1, 5, and 8 are all self explanatory on my overall score and the scores of the episodes as they are all the same.

You may think so is 9 but I would like to remind you that I did say that Heaven Sent was a 9 on a previous post. Despite the fact I think it is a brilliant script with the best cliffhanger of modern who I do believe that its slowness does not result in a 9. Hell Bent doesn't get it because of the way it went in terms of the story. If it was like the marketing suggested it would be like then this two parter would easily be a 9.

Series  2 is an interesting one. Army of Ghosts on its own in a 7, but a very high one. Doomsday is also a mid 9 so overall you would expect an 8. However I do not think so. I don't score it by average but as an overall story so the slow start means nothing to an overall story.

Stolen Earth in the series 4 finale secures one of the only two tens that I have awarded in modern era history, the other one being Day of the Doctor. Journey's End's ending is a real let down which is why overall it doesn't get the 10 but still secures a 9. It is probably my favourite of the David Tennant era mainly because of nostalgia

Series 3 is the only three part finale. Utopia and the Last of the Time Lords are both solid 8's but the Sound of Drums is a 9, a low one. Therefore  again you could say that this episode should deserve an 8. But just like what I said for Series 2 overall I think it deserves a 9 for the overall story. I think the Utopia cliffhanger is the second best cliffhanger of modern who after series 9. Like Series 2 my likeness of this episode is the nostalgia of watching it for the first time. Pre Series 4 this finale and Series 2 finale are the only ones I can remember watching.

Series 10 I have discussed in the reviews

Ranking series finales

1. Series 4
2. Series 2
3. Series 3
4. Series 10
5. Series 1
6. Series 9
7. Series 8
8. Series 5
9. Series 7
10. Series 6

You can tell that I'm not a fan of the finales of the Matt Smith era (well I am just not as much as the others) and I like Tennant's finales.
