Steven Moffat - end of an era

People are all geared up for a the farewell of Peter Capaldi but of course he isn't the only one going and perhaps even more importantly for the development of the show the series showrunner Steven Moffat is hanging is coat up as Showrunner and Executive Producer after 7 years and write for the show for 12!

Steven Moffat is the only writer left now who has written for every series of the modern era and one of two writers (the other being Mark Gattiss) to have written for all 4 Doctors of the modern era.

For every series of the RTD era, Steven Moffat's scripts were often perceived to be the best by the majority of fans so when it was announced that he was taking over their way joy across the fandom.

Before Moffat had even become the showrunner he had already created the modern era's most popular enemy, the Weeping Angles. It was Moffat's use of ordinary things and making them scary which made him so successful.

Series 5 was very similar in nature in terms of format to RTD's era but the series arc was more than it first seemed. The entire Matt Smith era was a series of different arcs that rolled into one in his concluding story. Of course Moffat liked to play with mystery and he did this thoroughly in this time period like who is River Song? Who did she kill? Who is the impossible girl? etc.

Moffat had to also was held responsible for the 50th anniversary special which paid off massively, giving all aspects of fandom a deserving special for the 50th. Of course when Christopher Eccleston declined the invitation of appearing in the 50th, Moffat gave us a new Doctor, an in-between Doctor in the shape of John Hurt. Moffat also gave us a regeneration for 8th Doctor, something we had been waiting for for 17 years! Moffat also had to explain what would happen to the Doctor after he had used his 13 lives.

After casting the youngest ever actor to the play the Doctor, Moffat cast the oldest in the shape of Peter Capaldi who also makes his last appearance this Christmas. Capaldi's era was more simple as an arc as a whole but had lots of interesting stories within them. Moffat tried a lot of new styles of writing to Doctor Who. One in particular of course was Heaven Sent were the Doctor was for the most part the only character.

Moffat was also responsible for doing the first ever Multi-master story in the most recent series finale, brining back John Simm. Another major inclusion to the franchise was introducing the fact that Time Lords can change gender and race. This of course has led to the first female Doctor who will debut this Christmas.

It is safe to say Moffat has done a lot for the show. He has been popular and unpopular in his decisions but what is important is to remember that if you have enjoyed anything in Doctor Who for the past 7 years than you have enjoyed it under Moffat.

A big thank you to Steven Moffat from the List and a thank you for the past 7 years.
