Peter Capaldi claims he will not return after his initial depature

Peter Capaldi has announced that he thinks that it is highly unlikely he will return in the future.

This is a surprising claim for a variety of reasons and perhaps adds a bit of fire to a theory of mine

Firstly Peter is a fan of the show. A proper fan. Actors of Doctors 3, 5, 6, 10 and 12 have all been fans before and all the Doctors bar one (Eccleston) are fans now. Peter Capaldi knows all that there is to know Doctor Who. So of course his time has to come to end as the Doctor but still is a Doctor. You think he would be more than honoured to come back. Well you see, you could just argue that he saying this so that he can do more jobs and not be seen as the Doctor still. We have to remember that Peter has done a lot of interesting jobs in the past and probably wants to continue doing that now, therefore putting Doctor Who to bed. However it is interesting that he said this in the first place.

Peter left it until quite late before deciding that he would leave. He isn't the first to do this. Hartnell was forced to leave by the producers because of his ill health, Pertwee decided to leave after the departure of everyone left from his start in the production, Tom left after fallouts with the producer, Peter Davison was umming and urring over whether to leave and later said that he wished he did the fourth series, Colin was sacked, Sylvester was cut off as the show was axed, Paul was never given a second chance, Christopher fell out with producers, David Tennant also ummed and urred over whether to do a fourth series as did Matt and Peter. Only Patrick saw it fit.

So the two most recent actors to leave, like Peter, definitely, or as far as we can tell, ruled out a fourth series. The difference between Capaldi and his predecessors is that they said they would definitely return for an anniversary in the future. Capaldi says he wouldn't. Troughton and T.Baker and Eccleston have all had similar responses in the past but the first two did indeed return, Troughton more than any other Doctor actor.

So why has Capaldi said this? Capaldi claims that he wasn't ever a fan of the multi-doctor stories and thought that when you go you have to go. This is interesting as most fans of his degree enjoy the odd multi-doctor story now and again as it does make you feel giddy seeing all those eras of the show together, however of course not everything is popular with everyone. It is also interesting because Capaldi's last adventure is with another Doctor. This is such a strange move by Moffat, if Capaldi's claims are true, because the Christmas Episode features an array of Capaldi's loved things so why put another Doctor in. Jon Pertwee wasn't too much of a fan of The Three Doctors and that was a special episode. Capaldi's departure is a special but it is special for him not for the show. If you were to go with a multi-doctor episode the two episodes you really must avoid are the first and last of the principal Doctor's tenure because those episodes really need to be about him. Therefore it is very odd that Capaldi who claims not to like multi-doctor episodes would be okay for a multi-doctor episode to be in his farewell episode.

It is of course possible that Moffat thought that this idea was the only one he could think off as he didn't expect to write the Christmas Special, as did Peter who thought that his time would be up after The Doctor Falls. Another reason of course is that Capaldi is making up why he won't return to cover the true reason that may be what I said above in the type cast argument or perhaps he fell out with the BBC. This could because Capaldi wasn't sure whether to stay and then suddenly he is gone and doesn't want to return. I think that Capaldi was sacked behind the scenes so that the show could have a proper revamp. If you think about this does make sense. Colin Baker was sacked but that wasn't public. Baker resigned in public when in reality he had already been sacked. Chibnall said that he always knew that his Doctor would be a woman so therefore why did he ask Capaldi to come back? The answer is probably he didn't

But that's just a theory of course.
