Doctor Who Classic Reviews #13: Enemy of the World

For my last review see Time and the Rani

Enemy of the World by David Whitaker

Enemy of the World is the 4th Story of the 5th Season of Doctor Who. This story was found in 2013.

Enemy of the World was never regarded as great before it was found. Then it got a huge reception when it returned. This is definitely Doctor Who meets James Bond. I find very interesting that this story is set in 2018, only two years away from now.

Doctor Rating

2nd Doctor: 8/10

Patrick Troughton isn't the 2nd Doctor for a lot of the story. He is split between being the 2nd Doctor, 2nd Doctor pretending to be Salamander or being Salamander. I therefore can't give Patrick Troughton any more than 8.

Companion Rating

Jamie McCrimmon: 7/10
Victoria Waterfield: 7/10

Jamie and Victoria aren't given much to do in the later parts of the episode.

Enemy Rating

Salamander: 10/10

Great villain who is well acted by Patrick Troughton and the fact that he is simply human is great as well.

Story Rating

Story: 9/10
Scariness: 6/10
Humour: 7/10

The story is great. It isn't that scary and there are a few cracks at humour here and there.

Total: 54/70

1. The Aztecs: 73.5%
2. The Moonbase: 81.8%
3. The Ark in Space: 82.5%
4. The Sontaran Experiment: 78.7%
5. The Brain of Morbius: 87.2%
6. The Tomb of the Cybermen: 82.73%
7. The Web of Fear: 85%
8.  Arc of Infinity: 66.3%
9. The Monster of Peladon: 66%
10. Vengeance on Varos: 76.25%
11. Earthshock: 65%
12. Time and the Rani: 60%
13. The Enemy of the World: 77.12%

Good placing for Enemy of the World. It's the fourth Patrick Troughton story that I have reviewed on the blog and it sadly comes last. I'm not sure whether or not this score does actually show my true view of this episode to the others.
