Star Wars Official News: Episode VIII for December 2017.

Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VIII was originally supposed to be released on 27th May 2017, which would tie in to the Star Wars's 40th Anniversary. Filming was originally supposed to start in October 2015, then January 2016 and then February 2016. Now it has been changed again with many rewrites. The date is now 15th December 2017.

It was decided that it should be moved for three reasons:

1. Rian Johnson wasn't happy with his final script
2. 1 year and a half is too short for a big motion picture
3. Episode VII did really well when being released in the Christmas holidays.

At first people were worried that Episode VIII would have big competition with Avatar 2, the highest grossing film of all time's sequel. This was changed as it has since been revealed that Avatar 2 will be delayed also.

I hope that they will re-release Episode IV in cinemas in May to tie in with the 40th. This is also what they did for the film's 20th anniversary. Disney might not do however so that general viewers won't get confused where Episode IV is set.
