Doctor Who Official News: Steven Moffat Leaves!

Steven Moffat has been a Doctor Who writer since the the revival in 2005. He became the showrunner for in series 5. He has been behind the creations of the weeping angles and he has been behind the 11th and 12th doctors.

There will be no full series of doctor who in 2016, with one Christmas special and the sixth part spin off series, Class. The next series, series 10 will be the last series under Moffat. This will air in April 2017.

Chris Chibnall who is currently showrunner and creator for Broadchurch, previous showrunner for Torchwood series 4 and has written Doctor Who episodes 42, The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and the Power of Three. Chris Chinbnall's first series will be in 2018.

It is unclear that Peter Capaldi will leave with him but it is highly likely. It is also unknown if he will return for free lance writing

My Opinion

This was actually a great shock to me. I thought it was a joke that everyone was talking about online. Chris Chinball is a weird choice. He is a good writer in my opinion but many don't think that he was a good DW writer. I thought that series 9 and then series 10 was to be the last series of Moffat so the fact that he is leaving is not that shocking. It has been announced rather early.

I am upset that there is no Doctor Who in 2016 but if it means that it will return to the spring format which it where it is most popular than I am okay. There isn't a lot of good TV in spring so that is good that the greatest TV show will fill that space. I will miss the short lived Autumn time-slot as I quite liked watching Doctor Who when it is dark outside.

Generally I've just been shocked with some big news and I don't really know what I think yet.

I hope Peter does not leave! Also I hope he continues writing for the show. I thought he was loosing ideas as a showrunner but he is a good writer.
