Before updating the scores and adding series 12, let's take a look at what the rankings looked like at the end of the last series. Clearly, I do have a set favourite of era, with RTD's series trumping all Moffat's and Chibnall's one series far at the bottom of the ranking. Series 4, 3, 7 and 6 saw no alterations to their series average score, whilst Series 8 and 2 went up and 1, 10, 5 and 9 went down. I do suffer slightly from recent episode syndrome so one can take from that that I will probably end up ranking Series 11 even slightly lower. It will be interesting to see where Series 12 fits into the rankings, and whether there is a breakage of the set ranking of the eras.
Series 12
1. Series 4 = 7.87 (-)
2. Series 2 = 7.64 (-)
3. Series 1 = 7.40 (-)
4. Series 3 = 7.20 (-)
5. Series 5 = 7.10 (up 0.10)
6. Series 10 = 7.00 (-)
7. Series 8 = 6.82 (up 0.01)
8. Series 9 = 6.80 (-)
9. Series 7 = 6.65 (down 0.11)
10. Series 6 = 6.58 (down 0.17)
11. Series 12 = 6.25 (NEW)
12. Series 11 = 5.73 (down 0.56)
Well the trend of RTD, Moffat and then Chibnall continues, with Series 12 slotting in in second to last spot, with only last series being worse than it. Series 12's average is pretty low, lower than the initial series 11 average, meaning due to my slight leaning of recent episode syndrome, that we will witness a decline in series 12 as well. Other movements in terms of placements are minimal, with only one such swap. Series 5 has over taken Series 10. Series 5, now the top of Moffat's era is very close with RTD's lowest, only 0.10 behind. In terms of scores there is some shift. Series 5 has had a little boost, and an even smaller one for series 8, which is more likely down to how how rounded the finger than anything else. Series 7 and Series 6 have both fallen a little in scores, but both still round to 7/10 overall. Series 11, has fallen substantially, as predictable with the affects of recent episode syndrome. Series 11 has fallen by 0.56, resulting in it being in the '5.' range, something that it finds itself in a unique place. Series 11, and 12 for that matter, both round to 6 out of 10 whilst the top two series, Series 4 and Series 2 both round to 8/10. All the other series round to 7/10 but there is a range from 7.40 to 6.58. From these scores it is quite clear what sort of style I like the most, and it certainly is not the current style. Series 12 has been a slight improvement to Series 11, in fact it is slightly closer to Series 6 in quality than Series 11, but it is still not showing its best light. When a new series comes in, I tend to rank it quite highly on the basis of recent excitement. Series 8, the first series I reviewed on here originally came second, Series 9 originally came 4th and Series 10 originally came 5th. Series 11 was always at the bottom but has made a significant drop down from its original score. Series 12 will almost certainly drop down too by the time I next do a ranking (which could be in 2022 at this rate...). My Rankings of era by Doctor appears to go Tennant, Eccleston, Capaldi, Smith, Whitaker. My hopes for Series 13 is that it is an improvement to the two most recent series, and of course I hope it breaks the Moffat barrier. It would be nice for a series to round to a 7. The fact though that I have only awarded one 8 in the idea Whitaker era (an 8 that will almost certainly be demoted) is not a good sign. In RTD's 4 series I awarded 13 9s, Moffat's six series contain 3 (one 10, two 9s) and Chibnall's two are currently on 1 8. The quality is showing. Looking at it from the other perspective, RTD's lowest rated score is a 5, of which there is only 1. Moffat has 6 5s and 2 4s in 6 series. In two series so far, Chibnall has had 3 5s, 2 4s and a 3. And this is only 2 series in! Of course this is Doctor Who and I will always continue watching but I do have to say if I was to just start watching now, I am not sure I would have carried on. Anyway, hopefully it will be onwards and upwards.
