"Hello There" - Obi Wan Film in 2020

Today it has been official confirmed by Lucasfilm that their third anthology film will be about the wonderful Obi Wan Kenobi, my favourite Star Wars Character.

Since the spin offs were announced Boba Fett has been the long running rumoured contender for one of these films. Then an Obi Wan Kenobi trilogy spung to mind in the rumour basket but was put  to bed by Lucasfilm. Obi Wan later joined Boba Fett for the prestigious position of rumour for the third spin off. Yoda also joined the scene some time later.

Kathleen Kennedy stated at Celebration IX that the film would be announced at D23 which was in early July but there was no information on that film at all or none on the Han Solo spin off, which recently gained a new director. This did cause panic for the Star Wars fan community that Lucasfilm were not confident on any of their ideas.

Then two days ago it was confirmed that the 2020 Spin Off film would be about Obi Wan Kenobi. Very little details on the film have actually been made including the lack of cast and the lack of a director. The fact that Ewan McGregor isn't mentioned does not mean that he is not the star of the show - it is still early days in production. The film could be set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and be set around Obi Wan in the desert but it could also be an origin story, however it could be argued that we have already seen enough back story for the character from the prequel trilogy.

There was also further news on the development of the series altogether. Future spin off films will be about Boba Fett, Yoda and Jabba the Hutt. When these will be released is unknown at the moment. Perhaps the delay for the announcement was merely Lucasfilm trying to decide what film to do next. Boba Fett has been long rumoured, Yoda too for a while and Jabba is a new addition altogether. I am curious about the decision to do a Han Solo, Fett and Jabba as the three have the same sort of background and no the same sort of people, including each other. Therefore it is interesting to see. As Episode IX is schedule  for 2019, Obi Wan for 2020 it is probable that the other three will arrive on 2021, 2022 and 2023 before the franchise has a break from film and perhaps arrives on television.

Stephen Daldrey is the rumoured director for the Obi Wan film. He is best known for being the director for the critically acclaimed Billy Elliot film.

The essential crew have also yet to be assembled but there are same names already confirmed for the 2020 spin off:

Producer: Kathleen Kennedy and Simon Kinberg
Screenplay: Simon Kinberg

Kathleen Kennedy - Chairman at Lucasfilm and there has had a few credentials to her name
The Force Awakens - Producer and Executive Producer
Rogue One - Producer and Executive Producer
The Last Jedi - Producer
Han Solo - Producer and Executive Producer
Episode IX - Producer and Executive Producer
Obi Wan - Producer

Simon Kinberg -
Star Wars Rebels Season 1 - Creator, Producer, Executive Producer, Story and Screenplay
Star Wars Rebels Season 2 - Creator, Producer, Executive Producer, Story and Screenplay
The Force Awakens - Producer
Star Wars Rebels Season 3 - Creator and Executive Producer
Star Wars Rebels Season 4 - Creator and Executive Producer
The Last Jedi - Producer
Han Solo - Screenplay
Obi Wan - Producer and Screenplay

However as the order of spin offs have changed so much it could be that Kinberg's film won't actually end up being the film that is released in 2020 as that was assumed to be the Boba Fett film
