Ranking the modern series

1. Series 4 (David Tennant and Catherine Tate) - This series was probably my peak life for the show. There really is no dud in there in my opinion. It also offers a lot of fantastic episodes, more than any other series. Turn Left, Midnight, Vastra Nerada two parter and the series finale, as well as Waters of Mars if you were to count it in this series are all '9' worthy for me. The series arc was less prominent then the other series but the missing planets idea was a good one. The series finale was a celebration of my era of Doctor Who so I was always going to enjoy that one - it's just a shame that it was wrapped up so easily. The 10th Doctor and Donna are just an excellent pairing as well, with Donna being my favourite companion. I remember watching most of these episodes for the first time when I was just 7 years old and I remember loving it.

2. Series 2 (David Tennant and Billie Piper) - This may be a shock to many as people aren't so keen on this series and definitely see it as the weakest of the RTD era. I for one love this series. I only dislike one of the two famous duds of this series (Fear Her) so I have no problem there. I think that the Ood two parter and the series finale are both excellent stories as are the Girl in the Fireplace, the Cybermen two parter, school reunion and Tooth and Claw. I don't dislike the Doctor-Rose lovestory as that was all I knew of Doctor Who at the time. My first classic series episode - The Trail of the Time Lord- I didn't watch until 2009 so it didn't anger me like it has other people.

3. Series 1 (Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper) - This series did a good job at showing everything Doctor Who can be and all the different episodes that it can do. It is a shame though that no story was set on an alien planet. The series was very self-contained with a lot of sequels to episodes previously in in the series. For example the Slitheen two-parter, Dalek and the Long Game all have sequels in the series. The Empty Child two-parter is really creepy and excellent and Dalek is still the best use of the Daleks in the modern era.

4. Series 3 (David Tennant and Freema Agyman) - Yes I do have all the RTD era series above the Moffat ones. This series is considerably lower than the other three in the RTD era. It has a pretty average set of stories but has three stories that I absolutely love - Blink, John Smith two-parter and the Master three part finale. I think that Martha was a good companion but was wasted on the unrequited love plot that I would have preferred a lot more if the reason why the love was unrequited wasn't Rose.

5. Series 10 (Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas) - I thought this series was a very good one. Like series 1 it showed everything that Doctor Who can do. It has a pretty average set of stories with only one that is particularly spectacular and that is the finale. I am hoping that the incoming Christmas Special is worthy of a 9 because then this series might be the first Moffat series to overtake an RTD one. I thought that the TARDIS team was excellent and it just a shame this trio just had this series. It would have been better if the trio was introduced last series.

6. Series 5 (Matt Smith and Karen Gillan) - When this series first aired I didn't like it. I still look upon the early Matt Smith years with a bit of a cynical tone. I just didn't like the way that the Doctor was laughed at as if Amy had always known him. The series kicked off an arc that would finish with Matt Smith. This idea meant that it was more of a cult series which did bring new fans from America but it alienated the British audience at home who were casual viewers. I thought that the series didn't have any stories worthy of such praise as other stories mentioned above but it had no real bad ones either. I don't like Amy so that does affect my opinion of the series.

7. Series 9 (Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman)- This series felt like a fan-fest by Moffat who did things that a lot of people didn't like. This series did a lot of firsts for new who. First appearance of Skaro and Gallifrey proper. First appearance of The Master meeting Davros etc. The series did do things that annoyed fans like the waste of Gallifrey. I thought this series had a good run of episodes, my favourite being the Zygon two-parter. I do however think that the two stories with Ashilda in the middle of the series were dreadful. Clara being the Doctor was annoying and she upstaged him a lot. That is why her ending in Face the Raven was excellent because it showed that you can't all be the Doctor. That unfortunately was ruined.

 8. Series 7 (Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman) - This series was pleasant with again no stand out episodes other than the 50th. It was a good series with a good collection of adventures with one awful episode - the Rings of Arkhaten. I liked the Clara mystery girl plot but I felt that it was forgotten about after this series despite it being such an important event. I thought that Time of the Doctor wrapped things up rather badly because it had do everything in one hour as well as having an awful sub-plot of Clara needing the Doctor to help her cook a turkey.

9. Series 6 (Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) - This series was too arc heavy for me. There were also now stand out episodes but there was certainly one that annoyed me - Let's Kill Hitler. The main difference between a RTD and Moffat bad episode is that the Moffat ones irritate me. I thought that the arc was wrapped up to quickly and the Wedding of River Song was just a cultivated piece of mess and definitely the weakest finale of the modern era. I did like the TARDIS team and I thought that Rory brought a lot to the series.

10. Series 8 (Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman) - This series had no stand out episodes and was too heavy of Danny Pink who I didn't like much anyway. Kill the Moon and Into the Forest of the Night are awful episodes. There are good episodes in this series but nothing smashing. The Doctor and Clara's relationship braking down was a good idea but was so inconsistent between stories.
