Now in terms of the modern era, Series 10* has hardly any recurring characters, only 9. Lets compare the modern era in terms of recurring characters
Series 4 = 35
Series 7 = 34
Series 3 = 23
Series 2 = 20
Series 6 = 19
Series 8 = 19
Series 9 = 18
Series 1 = 14
Series 5 = 14
Series 10 = 9
*Series 10 hasn't officially finished yet. The Christmas Special is the final episode of the series
Series 10 marks the third consecutive appearance of the 1st Doctor who has now appeared in four stories of the modern era, all in a cameo status. The Christmas Special is set to change that.
The Series marks the inclusion of the Doctor and his two companions, both of which fail to appear in every episode due to the exit of the characters in The Doctor Falls.
Moira appears as a family member who appears in only in two episodes, keeping up with Moffat's lack of emphases on family members, Brian getting the most amount of appearances being three.
Alpha Centauri marks the first non-companion, Doctor or Time Lord classic series recurring character to appear in the modern era (of which there are very little).
