John Simm's return as the Master: Discussion

So this was definitely an unexpected action.

Since Series 8 when Michelle Gomez début as the 7th Master, or indeed the Mistress fans have cried out for a regeneration sequence to show the transition from Simm to Gomez. This was an act that was not really ever expected to happen but now Simm is back.

I have heard a few rumours so let's go, in order of high credible I think they are.

1. The Two Masters - So Moffat could be going down a road never done before - a multi-master story. The Doctor has had ago at this 5 times, the Daleks have returned from all eras twice and we know the Cybermen are having the same treatment at the end of the series as well. The fact is though will the Masters work together or will they be against one another. Will they be on the same side as the Doctor? (Bearing in mind that Missy is in Episode 6 and the two part finale and is not the main villain in either of the episodes, the Monks playing a large part in the mid-season three parter and the Cybermen in the two-part final).

2. The Regeneration - Some how we will see the regeneration from Simm to Gomez. I think this is still a possibility as it is less timey-wimey (although it is written by Moffat)

3. Missy is Rani - This would be a huge twist. Now don't get me wrong I'm know fan as Missy as the Master but I think that she would be a worse Rani. The Nu-Who version of the Master is a mad hatter and that is certainly a characteristic that both the Mistress and the Master both have in common. The Rani is calm and collected, like the classic Master so I believe that it would be too much of a characteristic change. It is also of course possible that Missy is a new never seen before Time Lord as well. I don't think that Moffat would make this move. There are many many people like me who don't like Missy but there are a lot of people who do so by making this change Moffat would anger more people than he already has so...

It is interesting that Simm has been brought back as the Moff has rarely brought back any RTD creation in his era, (interestingly he has more and more as the show goes on). I also am a bit upset that this has been spoilt by the great The Sun. The trailer at the end of episode 1, I believe was meant to reveal this spoiler but perhaps it is Susan as also rumoured. That would also be fantastic.

I believe that Simm's Master will be in Episode 11 and 12 as Rachael Talay did make a comment about Simm returning. That does mean that perhaps the Mondasian Cybermen won't get as much focus as we once thought as with Simm I would much prefer a Master story.

Oh and there is also rumour that Delgado is back using CGI. If it is as good as the Tarkin one from Rogue One I will be very pleased. Delgado is my favourite Master, and probably always will be.
