Earlier this evening it was announced that Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who. Peter Capaldi first debuted as the Doctor in the 50th Anniversary special in 2013. Series 10 will be the last series he will do meaning his total number of series will be 3, following the "Troughton Rule of 3" which has been the common number of seasons for the Docors with 5 of the former 11 Doctors doing three series. The new series will air on 15th April 2017 and will consist of 11 stories and 12 episodes plus the Christmas Special which will Capaldi's last on the show. Peter Capaldi when finishing his run will be the 6th longest serving Doctor of the 12. It is unknown if companions Bill and Nardole will continue into the 11th series of the show or if they will go with Capaldi or even before at the series finale (If they are going it will most likely be here then on the same episode as Capaldi's last). Capaldi leaving reinforces the Mirrior's rumour that Series 11 will have a more younger actor to play the Doctor (presumably to get the so-called "fake" Whovians on board). Peter Capaldi portrays my 4th favourite incarnation of the time lord, just behind David Tennant, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker and I am sad that he is going. It just feels like I got used to his incarnation of the Doctor (which is just what I felt when it was announced that Matt Smith was leaving). I would have liked 12th Doctor to have done one more series just to ease the transition of showrunners and also because I think Capaldi's Doctor hasn't really shined as the Doctor because I think he has been restrained by Moffat and his continuation of Matt Smith in Capaldi. Oh, well. I am also sad to say that I don't think Capaldi will be memorable Doctor like Tennant and Smith were, which is sad for me because I thought he was great. Well I'm looking forward to the 60th anniversary (which I hope Doctor Who will reach) as hopefully Capaldi will return.
Now the time has come to speculate for a who will portray the new time lord. It could even be a woman...*
* Something which is rumoured every time the actor leaves who plays the Doctor but it has never happened.
(which I'm pleased about - I will discuss this at a Later point).
