Retcons in Star Wars

Retcon is where something has changed after the original intention

For example:

1. Ponds the clone commander in Star Wars the Clone Wars was retconned to be in Attack of the Clones.
2. Oncondondar Farr, a rodian senator from Attack of the Clones was retconned to be the Rodian senator in the Phantom Menace as well.
3. Lott Dod was retconned into Attack of the Clones.
4. Rune Hakku was retconned into Attack of the Clones by replacing Gilros Lockbath.

Two new examples of retcon have now been established by Dave Filoni, showrunner of Star Wars: Rebels.

1. Rex was a clone captain created for the tv series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In Rebels, Rex was brought back now looking like an elderly man. Many fans said that Rex as an old man looks like a Rebel Commando from Return of the Jedi. Now Dave Filoni has confirmed that Rex is in Return of the Jedi.

2. The Grand Inquisitor has now been officially confirmed as one of the temple guards who arrests Barriss Offee in the episode of the Clone Wars "The Wrong Jedi".

Other examples of Retcon in Star Wars:

 1. In Episode IV: A New Hope, Obi Wan Kenobi said that Anakin was murdered by Darth Vader. In Episode V this is proven false when it has become known that Anakin is Darth Vader. Whether or not George Lucas originally thought of Darth Vader as Luke's father in Episode IV is unknown.

2. In Episode IV, Obi Wan says that Anakin wanted Luke to have his lightsaber when he was older. However in Episode III Obi Wan takes Anakin's lightsaber after duelling him on Mustafar. It is believed that Obi Wan made this up to remind him of the Anakin before Darth Vader.

3. In Episode V, Obi Wan says that Luke is the last hope. Yoda says there is another, meaning Leia. This implies that Obi Wan is unaware of Leia. However he was aware that Leia was Luke's sister in Return of the Jedi and he was present at the birth of Luke and Leia in Revenge of the Sith. It is now believed that Obi Wan just couldn't sense Leia's force abilities.

4. In Episode VI, Leia says that she can remember her mother but Luke can not. This is odd as Padmé dies just after giving birth to them in Episode III. The novel of Episode III tries to correct this by saying that Luke was born with his eyes shut and Leia with her eyes open. Therefore Leia was able to remember Padmé through taping into the force.

5. In Episode IV, Obi Wan does not remember C 3P0 or R2 D2. R2 D2 does remember Obi Wan but C 3P0 Does not. Obi Wan does meet both C 3P0 and R2 D2 on many occasions during the events of the Prequel Trilogy. C 3P0 not remembering Obi Wan was fixed in Episode III by having his memory erased. Obi Wan not remembering C 3P0 and R2 D2 is put down to the fact that there were many droids that Obi Wan served with in the Clone Wars.

6. In Episode IV, Han Solo believes that the force is all "Mumbo Jumbo". However Chewbacca is aware of the force due to the events of meeting Yoda in Revenge of the Sith. It is generally believed that Han didn't believe Chewbacca about tales of the force.

7. In Episode IV, Obi Wan says that the Republic lasted for 1000 generations. However in Episode II Palpatine says 1000 years. The Ruusan Reformation was established to get rid of this error.

There are many more retcons in expanded universe material.
