Sylvester McCoy was in all three of the Hobbit stories as the wizard Radagast the Brown.
Matt Smith was in the Second Hobbit film as a background character in the opening flashback.
David Tennant was offered the part of King Thranduil but his wife's pregnancy left him unable to fly to New Zealand.
Also Tom Baker was offered the part of Gandolf but didn't want to spend three years in New Zealand so turned it down.
