We know that doctor who will be over on television in 2019. If there is a series every year then it will be series 13 that will be the last.
We know this time that BBC worldwide and Sony pictures are working together for. New Doctor Who film to be released in 2022 or 2023.
Doctor Who has been cancelled before and has been nearly cancelled several times
1964 - after 4 serials and 20 episodes that was supposed to be it for the much loved series. The BBC realised the show's popularity and decided to extend the season and comminish a second.
1966 - William Hartnell, the first doctor, was suffering from ill health and the BBC thought it was unwise for him to continue the role. This meant that Doctor Who, which was still very popular had to go too. If it wasn't the producers that came up with the idea of regeneration then doctor who would have ended then and then.
1969- following Patrick Troughton's decision to leave the series, the BBC were considering axing the series as the viewing ratings had gone down. But the DW team came up with the idea of having the Dotor stuck on Earth and shortening the series from 40 episodes a year to 25.
1986 - Apart from the show's actual cancellation this is the closet the show has ever gone to the cancelling room. The BBC thought that the show they were making was only for a few million fans instead of a larger audience. Inbetween season 22 and 23 was the largest gap between seasons apart from when it was canclled. The show was put on a trail for one more season, so the DW team called the series Trail of a time lord. The show was continued but with some casualties. The show could only continue if Colin Baker would stay for only one episode of the next season to give him a regeneration story. The show would also hvw to moved to a later time and on a Monday as opposed to its Saturday time slot. Colin Baker was upset by this as he loved doctor who and wanted to overtake Tom Baker as the longest running doctor. Colin Baker said that he wanted to continue for one more season but the BBC said no so he did not continue as the doctor for the opening story ov the next season.
1989 - the show was watched by fewer then 2 million viewers and as the show was expensive to make the BBC axed the show for proper.
1996 - as early as 1990 ABC were interested in buying doctor who from the BBC. In 1996 the BBC and ABC worked together to make a doctor who film. If the show was succesful then ABC would continue the series until 1998 and then end it then. The show was watched by nearly 10 million in Britain and was a great succes but not in America so the show stopped once more.
2010 - Doctor who returned in 2005 and was a huge success. At the time of 2010 it was still very popular. The BBC thought that the show might have to end as the popular actor David Tennant was leaving the role as the doctor. The BBC thought that not many people would watch the series with a new doctor. Not just that though as nearly the whole of the crew were leaving the show as well. It was kept by a lot of a hard work by Russel T Davies, David Tennant and Steven Moaffat.
2019 - Doctor who will end in 2019 and will be replaced by a film series.
