Sir Christopher Lee CBE 1922-2015

He has been in James Bond, Middle Earth, Star Wars and countless Dracula films before his death last thursday. Here are same facts about his life.

1. Here is in the Guinness Book of Records for the most screen credits: 259

2. Christopher Lee is part Finnish and Italian and is a direct descendant  of the Holy Roman Emperor


3. He was knighted in 2009 and was friends with fellow scary actor Peter Cushing.

4. Christopher Lee is the only member of the middle earth cast to actually meet JRR Tolkein

5. Christopher Lee was a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings reading it about 3 times a year.

6. Aged 17 he saw the last ever person to be killed by Guillotine in France.

7. Lee was a intelligence officer serving in North Africa against the Nazis.

8. After World War 2 Lee went on to hunt down Nazis and war criminals.

9. Whilst filming a fight sequence in the film The Dark Avengers (1955) Lee nearly lost his hand.

10. Christopher Lee was step cousin to Ian Fleming,the author of James Bond and they were best friends.

11. He has not just played Dracula but Frankenstein's monster and the Mummy

12. He has played Sherlock Holmes and his brother Mycroft Holmes

13. Lee married Henriette Von Rosen. Her father didn't like Lee and said that he could only marry her if he got the blessing of the King of Sweden. Lee got it.

14. When Lee found out that the Lords of the Rings trilogy was to be made into films he made sure he playe a wizard in many films so that Peter Jackson would choose him for a part of Gandolf. He got the part of Saruman (he was aged 79)

15. Christopher Lee was able to recite everyone who was publicly executed in England from the 15th Century onwards.

17. Lee was a Opera singer, golfer and could speak 6 languages.
